TCU closing in on Top 25

Villanova returned to No. 1 in The Associated Press college basketball poll Monday, leapfrogging Kansas after a week out of the top spot.

The Wildcats (17 1), who fell to third last week after five weeks as No. 1, moved back on top following No. 1 Baylor’s loss in its only week ever as a top ranked team.

Villanova received 28 first place votes and 1,580 points from the 65 member national media panel while Kansas (16 1) remained No. 2 despite getting more first place votes than the Wildcats. The Jayhawks had 32 No. 1 votes and 1,562 points.

Villanova beat Xavier and St. John’s last week while Kansas swept Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

UCLA (18 1) moved up one place to third and received three first place votes. Gonzaga (17 0), the only unbeaten team in Division I, went from fifth to fourth and had the other two No. 1 votes.

Kentucky moved up one place to fifth and was followed by Baylor, West Virginia and Creighton, which were tied for seventh, North Carolina and Florida State.

South Carolina and Maryland are the week’s newcomers, replacing Minnesota and Kansas State and Southern California, which were tied for 25th.

The last five ranked teams are Purdue, Xavier, Saint Mary’s, South Carolina and Maryland.

Jason Witten wear Texas basketball jersey

This isn’t the first time Romo and Witten have been spotted at a college basketball game together. They’ve attended numerous Duke and SMU games. But this is the first time they’ve been seen at a Texas game.

It’s particularly interesting that they were sitting with McCoy.

“I’m looking at the positive, the negatives were obvious,” Jones said. “You can’t win making those kinds of bad plays I’m talking about the turnovers and interceptions. On the other hand, for someone that had never played in a game, he did some really impressive things.

“There’s no question in my mind that he can ultimately play and win games as a quarterback in the NFL Kellen Moore can. There’s no question in my mind. Now, along the way will he lose more than you can afford to be around for when he does win one, or win two or three? That’s the big question. So I’m not basically saying he can take you to a division or a Super Bowl I don’t know that. But I will say that he’s got something special.

“His negatives are obvious, but he’s always been challenged by those cheap college Cheap NCAA Jerseys
jerseys, which is principally size. And our staff is really impressed with him, and of course they would and should know the very best. But what he didn’t do is spit the bit out when he got in the games. It wasn’t too big for him. As a matter of fact, he would step up and go to the occasion.

“He didn’t get glassy eyed when he threw those interceptions. He came over there and just said his famous line to Jason [Garrett] was ‘Well, let’s be positive, Coach. I can’t do any worse than that. It’s all uphill.’ That’s pretty strong.”

In three games last season, the 26 year old Moore completed 58.7 percent of his passes for 779 yards, four touchdowns and six interceptions.

McCoy, 29, has played six seasons in the league for Cleveland, San Francisco and Washington. He started four games for the Redskins in 2014. McCoy appeared in two games for Washington last season. In 35 career games, he’s thrown 26 touchdowns to 23 interceptions, posting a 78.9 passer rating.
