It was his 27th Emmy. NBC hockey voice Mike Emrick won his third consecutive for play by play. Bill Raftery won for game analyst. He called college basketball for CBS, Turner and Fox Sports 1. Yes, all three count Raftery in their individual total of winners.

pay per view numbers for middleweight Canelo Alvarez’s predictable knockout of Amir Khan are projected to be a smidge less that 600,000 buys. That’s a good number for Alvarez against a British opponent who brought nothing to the event. If all goes according to plan (a rarity in boxing), Alvarez’s next fight may be against undefeated Gennady Golovkin at AT Stadium in September. Given Golovkin’s stature, the fight would appear to be a lock for more than 1 million buys.
Mike Tirico, via conference call this week, said the opportunity to work the Olympics was “top of the list” in his decision to leave ESPN for NBC. He also hinted that he would have a role in NBC’s NFL coverage. That will happen but has not been announced yet. Said Tirico: “I looked at what I do for the other sports that I had involvement with at ESPN and absolutely loved those responsibilities. But then I looked at the level of events that NBC was offering. They were all championship level events, the biggest events in those sports.”
The WNBA’s Dallas Wings will have home games delivered on Fox Sports Southwest or KTXD (Channel 47) with veteran NBA voice Ron Thulin calling play by play alongside Raegan Pebley, TCU women’s basketball coach. ESPN2 is down for three games, and NBATV has seven games scheduled.
